Completion

Fear or concern about artificial intelligence only makes “sense” if we humans give AI the freedom to make “its own” decisions without being controlled. The photographs in the “Completion” series go through a lengthy process of change and editing in which the photographs are consciously and purposefully expanded. This happens through a simple programmed expansion action of an image editing program and in particular under the direction of controlling interventions by the image editor. Omissions, deletions, overpainting, expansion of the image field, the possibilities for the artist to intervene are diverse. In this way, the actions of a rudimentary artificial intelligence are deployed under complete human control and ultimately represent nothing more than brushes and paint on a canvas.
