Pandemic games – Reappraising
The first ideas for the Reappraising series emerged during the Covid 19 pandemic. However, the series goes beyond simply commenting on the pandemic and how it was overcome and looks at the events from very different angles. Symbols of everyday life during the pandemic become games or toys, which is a close reference to the curfews and contact restrictions in the coronavirus era – it was time to play again. However, the depiction attempts to take particular account of the current situation. There are repeated calls from various social groups to reappraise the political decisions made during the coronavirus pandemic. However, in many cases, the intentions behind this do not really seem to be to come to terms with the situation, but rather to defame the decision-makers. After all, any political response at the time would probably have been heavily criticized in retrospect, no matter what form it would have taken.
And although people like to claim that their own actions and decisions should always be viewed in the light of the current situation and not with hindsight, this is often not the case when evaluating others. In particular, political decisions that were unpopular are analyzed with hindsight and people act as if they themselves would have made much better decisions “back then” – another game…
