About

His works primarily serve to make the viewer “look” again. It seems that nowadays people have forgotten to look. Information reaches people at high frequency and in large numbers, it is short and fast-moving. For example, people no longer sit on the train and look outside, but look for entertainment on the screen. Even pedestrians seem to be more preoccupied with their cell phones than with their surroundings. Couples sit in restaurants and fill their time with attention to their communication with absent people. There are even people sitting in the same room and communicating with each other via messenger services. Visual information has to be special to attract attention, the inconspicuous and everyday is hardly noticed anymore. In working with the inconspicuous and everyday, Schlereth is concerned with social phenomena, environmental issues and the subtleties of human coexistence. A current focus is the relationship and behavior of people in relation to their surroundings, living environment, nature... inspired by photographers of the New German Objectivity and conceptual approaches.
